Unofficial Last Week of Summer?

Apparently this is unofficially the last week of summer! So how am I going to send summer out with a bang? Like this:

*Wear all of my summer dresses one more time!

*Spend the entire weekend outside!

*Go to the Boston Harbor Islands!

*Enjoy the last few days of going outside without a jacket!

*Walk through the Boston Public Gardens before it becomes a different place!

*Stick my feet in the Frog Pond one more time!

*Eat ice cream in the sun!

Now here is why I am excited for fall:

*Glee starts! Now that I have my roommates hooked this will be a wonderful thing...and I think we all have a crush on Matthew Morrison so you know whatever works!

*The theater season is back in full gear! This means Desiree gets to see 1-3 shows a week for free! 

*My 12 week acting class starts up!

*I get to House Manage (now yes I do have this weird love for HM'ing but it also means extra money and that also makes me VERY happy!)

*Running in Boston is at its BEST! Well everything is at its BEST!

*New Broadway season starts up...which means more show I will be dying to see! On the list so far: Adam's Family the Musical, Little Night Music, After Miss Julie, God of Carnage, Spiderman the Musical! And if I am not careful I will end up back in the Booth Theater watching Next to Normal again...

Outside the Box

I know I know...two posts in two days...i must have lost it! Really, I just wanted to get on a soap box for 30 seconds...I won't take up to much of your time promise!  

I love outside of the box theater.  I love theater companies that are willing to take that risk of putting themselves that out there.  Art is always throwing your whole self completely out there....but not for the sake of just being weird.  I think you have to be true to who you are and then be willing to take the risk and somewhere in that process you will create something beautiful.  I just saw The Donkey Show and it was like no other night of theater I have ever experienced - but it was awesome.  I think you can see a glimpse of the future of theater in that show.  I mean talk about truly "experiencing" a show.  Us theater folk constantly talk about how to engage the audience, how to give them the "full" experience etc.  Well, I think it lies in truly making the audience a part of the experience.  The audience is JUST as important in the theatrical experience than the actors, designers, directors etc.  The audience has to be just as "in the moment" and "present" as the actors in the show.  That is what makes theater such a different art form than the movies....because you make a difference in the performance you are watching.  You get to live, breath, and be in the same world as the actors for two hours.  If live theater was visual art it would be a different picture each night because of the audience...how cool is that?  So I think that is why I like outside of the box theater....because they incorporate the audience in a new and different way and you end up experiencing theater in a way you never have before.

It's Fall in Boston!

I swear you could feel the shift in season today in Boston.  September 1st and the I had my first "it's a little chilly and i don't want to get out of bed" moment.  Imagine just a few days ago I was opening every window possible and sticking my head in the freezer to stay cool. School is starting back up in Boston and oh boy is there a difference.  The T is more crowded...confused freshman wander the streets...and everything just screams back to school!  With the beginning of fall comes my first 50 degree run and it was a beautiful thing!  Fall is my favorite season now since I live in Boston.  In Texas I loved spring, but spring sucks here and fall is really the perfect season!  I jumped the gun a few days ago and pulled out my boots (in aug...i know...crazy!) and favorite scarf when the high was in the 60's and I felt so in my element again! You have to relish everyday of the fall because you know what is right around the corner...lots and lots of snnnnnoooww!

August was a really big month for me.  Here are the highlights:

- I ran a half marathon in New York City

- I took the second part of my acting class that I took in the Spring

- I was in my first play in 5 years! It was a BLAST and an absolute dream to work with the people involved in this project!

- My mom visited Boston for the first time

- I took two New York City trips...I think I have mastered the metro and someone should give me my New Yorker card! lol! (I will say that when I was venturing to Central Park the morning of my race at 4:30am a New Yorker told me "well it does not get more New York than this." So I am official right?

- I found new roommates that are amazing and wonderful! Brian and Christie moved in two days ago and it has been an absolute blast! Today we had "Tell all Tuesdays" over PBR and we have declared tomorrow Wii Wednesday! I am SO excited about living with both of them this year!

Well that is me in a nutshell.  As always I vow to get better at updating so I don't have to do this super brief bullet point updates! Love!

Oh the possibilities!

I don't know if anyone is still out there reading my blog.  I am the most inconsistent blog updater ever. I don't even think I would be following my blog but who knows maybe I have some sort of audience out there.

SO it is finally SUMMER and I can't even express how WONDERFUL it feels outside.  Who knew it could still be in the 70's in June! It is so much fun because EVERYONE is outside, people are just happier, live music around every corner, and a burst of tourists.  I now remember why I love living in a walking city!  AND even though I don't have a "real" summer it just feels like summer. Partly because Boston is such a college city and because we are done with our season at work.  The pace has slowed down immensely and it is sooo nice.  Now I am just trying to get everything in order for next season and hope that since I have a couple of months to prepare it won't be as bad this time around.

I started training for the New York City Half Marathon on Saturday.  I still really don't have a training schedule...I'm kind of making it up right now...I need to find one I like.  I am really bummed that I did not get into the NYC Marathon...BUT Celina got in!  Well at least I get a trip to NYC in November and a chance to see my bestie right?! Oh and I decided Boston has to be one of the best running cities in the U.S. 

Speaking of New York...I need to get down there ASAP.  Watching the Tony's last night made me realize there are a ton of things I want to see right now.  My top five list is: West Side Story, Hair, The Norman Conquest, Next to Normal, and Nine to Five.  I am also VERY excited about the Boston Theatre Scene because Rent and Jersey Boys will be in town this summer.  The bad thing is that Jersey Boys will be here for 10 weeks and we all know how well I did the last time a musical I was obsessed with was here for a while...oh Spring Awakening!  Watching the Tony's also made me realize how lucky and blessed I am to work in this industry.  It takes SO many people to make theatre happen and sometimes I don't know how any of us pull it off but here is to being part of that process!

So there are two things in life that are just kind of pending but the possibilities are oh so exciting!  One is work related and I am bubbling over with excitement at the thought of it!  The other...well who knows where it's going but it is fun/exciting/thrilling and well...we will also just have to see where that one goes!  Could I be more vague?  Hahaha I do love keeping you in anticipation of my next post...but who knows when that will be! :)

NYC You are where I want to BE!

 As I write this post I am on the way back to Boston from NYC.  I just experienced NYC  in a completely new and different way and I am more obsessed and in love with this city than ever.  Let's just say that a couple of weeks ago I decided I would most likely move there in the summer of 2010 and now I want to move there as soon as possible...if I had it my way and could find a job it would be the end of this summer!  Don't get me wrong I LOVE Boston and I absolutely enjoy every second of living in that city but there is just something about nyc that i can not express in words that makes me want to live there right this very second!!  I think I want to live there right now because I finally think I can handle it...mabye the below stories will shed light on this new realization...

So this new york york trip was really good for me because it was my first trip to the city where i really was on my own in every possible way.  I had very little structure for the trip and no expectation of what was really going to happen.  I planned it very last minute and I did not even know what show I was going to see when I got down there (HUGE deal for me!).  The past three times I have been to the city I have had a consistent buddy/buddies by my side the whole time and this time it was just me navagating myself around the city from place to place meeting up with friends.  I guess i really got to experience what it would be like if i really did live in new york.  I understand the subway/bus system and everything else a lot better now because i had to figure it out all by myself! (Al I know that blue line now I swear!).  New York City usually overwhelms me and it makes me question if I can really handle it or not but this time I was not overwhelmed in the least bit and the city felt really familiar. 

Friday night my bus got in 30 min late and I failed at meeting my friends for dinner and putting my stuff away so I would not have to carry it around all night long.  As they headed off to see a show I hung out with a high school theater friend I had not seen in over 4 years.  It was so surreal and random to see him again and in all places new york city?! We walked around the city, got a bite to eat, grabbed a drink, and watched the midnight show at stand up new york where my friend does stand up sometimes.

The next day I met up with a zta friend at the TKTS booth to see a show.  I am a little obsessed with that booth and the entire experience because you have no clue what show you are going to end up seeing and what is really going to happen until the last second.  Nicole and I decided on our top three shows and when we got up to the booth the guy made our decision really easy by telling us our first choice was sold out and our second choice had two AMAZING seats open for 50% off!  We saw Avenue Q and it was extremely funny!  I've always wondered how this show beat Wicked for Best Musical in 2004 and well now (even though I may not agree) I now have my theories on why it did.   I also realized that I have almost seen every show that has won Best Musical at the Tony's in the past 5 years.  The only one that I have left to see is Spring Awakening and that will happen next month! YAY!

After the show we put our names in for the lottery to see In the Heights.  Even though I have already seen this show I would not pass up a chance to see it on the front row for $25!  We did not win but I would not trade in that hour of my life for anything.  When people's name were announced they would scream as if they had won a million dollars! When we did not win we headed down to a bar to watch the Baylor game.  The trick was every bar in Time Square was packed and by the time we found seats at one of them the game was half over.  But we did get to support the Bears and say Sic Em a few times even though we lost!  Good try Bears!  I'm still proud of you!

And now it is back to Boston for the opening of a show at my theater.  I'm half alive from the weekend so this will be interesting...

Burst of Inspiration

I am not sure why I have just had a random burst of inspiration to update my blog at 12:07 am.  Maybe it is because I just realized I have not blogged for two months and I never meant to be such a slacker.  Well since it is late I will leave you with a top 5 list of my life.

1.  I just experienced a little bit of Waco in Boston.  How is this possible you may ask?  Well CFCF (my church in Beantown) had its mission conference (World Mandate East) and several people from Antioch came up to be a part of it.  It was a really weird feeling because I felt like I was in Waco.  I also realized how different CFCF is from Antioch.  I kind of forgot what Antioch felt like until this weekend.

2. 46, 38, 49, 51.  These are the HIGH'S in Boston this week!!  Can someone say SUMMER?!  Because after the past two months these temps feel like summer.  A girl can dream that these temps will stick around for the rest of winter right?  I would also like to say that this Texas girl can handle winter better than these Bostonians can.  

3.  I refuse to call my self in a tourist in NYC anymore.  In order to receive my official local stamp from a new yorker I have been challenged to know the best sushi, greek, Italian, and asian restaurants are in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.  I can handle that.  I'll let you know when I pass the test.  I also think I should know where every stop on the blue line is.

4. I got a new haircut today.  It is my favorite short haircut so far.  Someone told me today that every time they see me I have a new haircut.  I never meant to turn into "that girl," but I have had 5 different hairstyles since June.  I think I am "that girl."  

5.  I love coffee shops.  I am obsessed with discovering more and more coffee shops around the city.  It is my favorite thing.

Bonus:  Oh you did not think you would be so lucky to get a Bonus now did you?  Well I just thought I would put in a plug for "He's Just Not That Into You."  It was the chick flick I feel like I have been waiting for.  The past few chick flicks I have seen were awful... Bride Wars?!  Ick!  That just did not hit the spot for me.  But HJNTIY was wonderful!  It had all the right elements for a quality chick flick.  Have you seen it?  What are your thoughts?
