today was

depressing. i hate the recession. i have some choice words to say to it. i am thankful i still have a job in the industry i love. but how far is to far? how do you keep doing what you are passionate about when all you do is give more and more of yourself and get less and less from it.  well i mean i get a lot from it in a non-monetary format...which sometimes is more important...hmmm but you need money to eat...soooo listen up theater...just give me enough to pay rent and eat and i think we can call it even. ok? is that to much to ask for? the end. thank god for good pep talks. nothing to get you of a mood like one of those...but it has to be really good...ok... tomorrow is a new day.

and then i went grocery shopping at 11:00pm

I don't think it is ok that 11:00pm in the middle of the week is when I end up at the grocery store. Well like it or not it is becoming a habit that I need to kick...how to kick it is the real question we should be asking! 

In other news (and a reason I did not have time to grocery shop this weekend) since Amy recently shared a story from the fair she attended I thought it would only be appropriate to share a story or two from the 7 hour fair I worked this weekend.  So I worked College Fest 2009 for my theater on Sunday and...well...let me just paint the picture for you: I walk in and my booth is located in between First Church of Christ, Science and the Sexual Education booth.  So on my left the Science church is aggressively handing out pamphlets on how to have truthful honest relationships with people and on my right people are screaming "free condoms" every 5 minutes and aggressively handing out "sex kits." I knew right off the bat I was in for an interesting 7 hours.  My favorite comment was from the kid who just grabbed an insane amount of condoms from the sex ed booth and then walked by my booth where I am handing out postcards to our next show called 2.5 Minute Ride...so the kid turns to his friend and says "Oh hey man look you can get condoms over there and then go on a 2.5 Minute Ride here. Who knew?" Ohh freshman! 

And now on to the runner up best moment of my day.  There were two stages at this shin-dig. One stage for rock bands and the other for hip hop troupes.  Every now and then someone would get on stage and announce how they were looking for two complete strangers to make out on stage and win a free ski trip. Annnd thats when I decided I was at MTV Spring Break 2009. I would say 40% off this fair consisted of free condom booths and energy drink booths...apparently all you do in college is have sex and pull all-nigheters?! Hmmm.... 

October is gearing up to be a fun/crazy month!  My dad is coming to visit in the middle of the month, my theater is opening two shows, my acting class gets more intense as we get our scenes soon, I get to go to New York City, and I am probably house managing a little to much.  Then in November I get to see AMY! I.can.not.wait!

I also decided October will be a stellar month of theater: 2.5 Minute Ride, Speed-the-Plow (both shows at my theater!), Savannah Disputation with my gay bf, Fences (my acting theater said this was the best show she has seen in Boston...ever!) with the boy, and God of Carnage (helllo major stars: Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, James Gondolfini, and Marcia Gay Harden) with bestie Alice in New York City! 

Oh! AND Ben Affleck and Tom Cruise are both shooting movies in Boston. Soo, October is going to rock!!

Unofficial Last Week of Summer?

Apparently this is unofficially the last week of summer! So how am I going to send summer out with a bang? Like this:

*Wear all of my summer dresses one more time!

*Spend the entire weekend outside!

*Go to the Boston Harbor Islands!

*Enjoy the last few days of going outside without a jacket!

*Walk through the Boston Public Gardens before it becomes a different place!

*Stick my feet in the Frog Pond one more time!

*Eat ice cream in the sun!

Now here is why I am excited for fall:

*Glee starts! Now that I have my roommates hooked this will be a wonderful thing...and I think we all have a crush on Matthew Morrison so you know whatever works!

*The theater season is back in full gear! This means Desiree gets to see 1-3 shows a week for free! 

*My 12 week acting class starts up!

*I get to House Manage (now yes I do have this weird love for HM'ing but it also means extra money and that also makes me VERY happy!)

*Running in Boston is at its BEST! Well everything is at its BEST!

*New Broadway season starts up...which means more show I will be dying to see! On the list so far: Adam's Family the Musical, Little Night Music, After Miss Julie, God of Carnage, Spiderman the Musical! And if I am not careful I will end up back in the Booth Theater watching Next to Normal again...

Outside the Box

I know I know...two posts in two days...i must have lost it! Really, I just wanted to get on a soap box for 30 seconds...I won't take up to much of your time promise!  

I love outside of the box theater.  I love theater companies that are willing to take that risk of putting themselves that out there.  Art is always throwing your whole self completely out there....but not for the sake of just being weird.  I think you have to be true to who you are and then be willing to take the risk and somewhere in that process you will create something beautiful.  I just saw The Donkey Show and it was like no other night of theater I have ever experienced - but it was awesome.  I think you can see a glimpse of the future of theater in that show.  I mean talk about truly "experiencing" a show.  Us theater folk constantly talk about how to engage the audience, how to give them the "full" experience etc.  Well, I think it lies in truly making the audience a part of the experience.  The audience is JUST as important in the theatrical experience than the actors, designers, directors etc.  The audience has to be just as "in the moment" and "present" as the actors in the show.  That is what makes theater such a different art form than the movies....because you make a difference in the performance you are watching.  You get to live, breath, and be in the same world as the actors for two hours.  If live theater was visual art it would be a different picture each night because of the audience...how cool is that?  So I think that is why I like outside of the box theater....because they incorporate the audience in a new and different way and you end up experiencing theater in a way you never have before.

It's Fall in Boston!

I swear you could feel the shift in season today in Boston.  September 1st and the I had my first "it's a little chilly and i don't want to get out of bed" moment.  Imagine just a few days ago I was opening every window possible and sticking my head in the freezer to stay cool. School is starting back up in Boston and oh boy is there a difference.  The T is more crowded...confused freshman wander the streets...and everything just screams back to school!  With the beginning of fall comes my first 50 degree run and it was a beautiful thing!  Fall is my favorite season now since I live in Boston.  In Texas I loved spring, but spring sucks here and fall is really the perfect season!  I jumped the gun a few days ago and pulled out my boots (in aug...i know...crazy!) and favorite scarf when the high was in the 60's and I felt so in my element again! You have to relish everyday of the fall because you know what is right around the corner...lots and lots of snnnnnoooww!

August was a really big month for me.  Here are the highlights:

- I ran a half marathon in New York City

- I took the second part of my acting class that I took in the Spring

- I was in my first play in 5 years! It was a BLAST and an absolute dream to work with the people involved in this project!

- My mom visited Boston for the first time

- I took two New York City trips...I think I have mastered the metro and someone should give me my New Yorker card! lol! (I will say that when I was venturing to Central Park the morning of my race at 4:30am a New Yorker told me "well it does not get more New York than this." So I am official right?

- I found new roommates that are amazing and wonderful! Brian and Christie moved in two days ago and it has been an absolute blast! Today we had "Tell all Tuesdays" over PBR and we have declared tomorrow Wii Wednesday! I am SO excited about living with both of them this year!

Well that is me in a nutshell.  As always I vow to get better at updating so I don't have to do this super brief bullet point updates! Love!
