So this post will NOT be about my job search saga! On another note I want to give you a chance to go inside my wacky brain and take a glimpse at what has been turning inside of it:
First the most anticipated Disney Channel movie since HSM 1 and 2 premiered on Friday- CAMP ROCK! And I just want to say it ROCKED! I totally think it stands up there with HSM 1! Not HSM 2 because I think I laughed more at HSM 2 than with it if you know what I mean! (I mean just thinking about Zac Efron frolicking in the grass while trying to be hard core makes me want to chuckle still!) Anyways needless to say I enjoyed all 2.5 hours of the jo bro's and demi rockin out. I mean I was even inspired by the message!
So more than ever I have noticed that I do not think I am normal. I think every person in my family thinks I am a tad crazy for getting so much enjoyment from the disney channel at my age and have commented on my love for the D-Channel. Some express their opinions a little more harshly than others! So do I think I need to grow up and graduate myself from the D-Channel? NO! You know why? Because as I channel surf I get so frustrated with what kind of entertainment is on TV! I mean I can't think of one show that is made for my "age group" that does that involve sex, drugs, lust, adultery etc and I am so so sick of it! I mean I can't even listen to the radio without having to change the channel every other song (I mean forgive me for not wanting "I kissed a girl and I liked it" in my head) I know that this is the kind of pop culture we are living in and I can't shut down the media just because I don't want to fill my mind with that stuff, but I just want to know what is the other option? Can't we have the option of culturally relevant entertainment that is not filled with all this junk? People start to question why 12 year old girls are taking naked pictures of themselves and sending them to boys (true story I heard on the radio!). Well I say what do you expect with what kind of entertainment that is out there and what they are probably watching behind their parents back. I firmly believe that what you expose yourself to is going to come out of you. It is going to affect you. You are not above it, no matter what your age, and it will take a toll on you in some form or fashion.
I love the entertainment industry. I mean I am working my but off to get into it! But I think I have a love hate relationship with the media. I was joking about how if someone would put me in charge of the media how I would change it and my cousin said then the world would be a bunch of Disney Channels! Now I don't think that is totally true but I do want to go into this industry to give people a choice in what kind of entertainment they want to choose. There are not many alternatives for people to pick that does not involve the things that are filled in other shows that still carry the same form of cultural relevance. I don't think we need entertainment that is rainbows and butterfly's all the time because life is not like that. But I KNOW there is a way to create entertainment that still speaks to the heart and touches on important issues without the "junk." So for the time being I will not think that I am weird for being very entertained by the Disney Channel. It is my alternative and until I find more it will be my first choice when I turn on the TV!
I do not mean to offend anyone and their choice of entertainment. I am passionate about this and it is so a part of me because of my own experience with the kind of media I don't want to be a part of anymore. And I don't do media perfectly the way I want to all the time. I mess up a lot and I still give in to things I say I don't want to be a part of. I am still figuring it out and mistakes are a part of the process for me. I am not perfect and I am still learning a lot about myself! The Lord took me and is still taking me on a journey and I know that there is a purpose bigger than I am for me in the theatre/entertainment industry. I am just rooting for the underdog in pop culture...the other option!! I will either find it or create it!
